Resilience is a process of getting a robust attitude in the face of challenging and even threatening events.
It’s also about becoming a stronger person as a consequence of facing up to and overcoming challenging experiences.
Living is often about tackling obstacles or barriers that stand in the way of what we want.
Tackling one obstacle or challenge after another can be quite soul destroying, particularly if the light at the end of the tunnel seems pretty dim, if not dark. When we feel this way, we need a lot of inner strength and determination. We also need a strong attitude for less extreme situations, for when we need to confront a new and potentially positive experience or something routine when tired, in a dull mood, or simply fed up with everything.
Ultimately, my M-A-G-I-C transformational model gifts you an opportunity to identify and create your own personal development practices to develop or boost your resilience and navigate the world with the dexterity of a Ninja Warrior!
The M-A-G-I-C M: Mindfulness
Mindful awareness of the blocks, obstacles, barriers and resistance that weaken our resolve, impact our self-belief, self-confidence, self-esteem, choices and decisions. Seeking the parts or aspects of ourselves that take us away from our true self or authentic self, thereby limiting or refraining us from accessing our personal resilience.
Our thoughts and sabotaging behaviours or habits are often the most helpful aspects to start our mindfulness practice.
The M-A-G-I-C A: Alignment to our Authentic Self
The person who we are today is a unique representation of the imprint our life has made on us to date.
From conception, our innate character and personality has developed from the connections and interactions we have had with our primary carers, peers, culture, religion and experiences, to create who we are now.
Ultimately, these elements have influenced what we think, feel, believe and how we behave and perceive the world.
Our emotions are in a way, the assessment tool to self- alignment. When we are aligned with our authentic self, we are resilient, we are healthy, we feel happy and content in all areas of our life.
Likewise, the opposite is true. If, for example, our relationships or career are challenging or perhaps our health is below par, by patiently and gently exploring our emotions that don’t feel comfortable, we can experience transformational outcomes in our self and in our lives in the most wonderful ways. Ways that feel aligned to who we truly are!
The M-A-G-I-C G: Grit
The definition of Grit aka Resilient is:
‘A capacity to absorb negative conditions, integrate them in meaningful ways and move forward’
I believe that all the difficult and challenging times we all experience in our lives are an opportunity to learn more about ourselves. By making time, creating space and procuring appropriate support if required (i.e. your partner, friend, counsellor, coach or therapist) to understand the impact of the experience we can benefit in many ways. Including for example:
- An updated personal toolkit, prepared should the incident appear again
- Increased self-esteem and confidence
- Healthier physical, mind and emotional states
- Valuable coping strategies to share with your loved ones, friends or team members
The M-A-G-I-C I: Insights
The insights we can also explore further to enable us to get a ‘hook on the root’ or the ‘core’ parts of ourselves that feel incongruent to who we are, include our core beliefs and core values.
Our core beliefs reside deep within our unconscious mind and together with our core values influence 95% of our lives, through the choices and decisions we make.
Likewise, memories or past lives can also impact our capacity to be resilient and comfortable with who we are.
The M-A-G-I-C C: Choice and Change
Our world is demanding us to be more resilient in more diverse ways. Increasingly we are constantly being influenced daily through our governments, education systems, the news, marketing campaigns, religions and social media to exacerbate fear and anxiety, impact self- worth and self- belief, limit creativity and erode our health in all ways.
We are all born with the resources and capacity to live a healthy, happy life, aligned to our authentic self and thrive.
We all have the opportunity to take ownership and responsibility to make personal choices that have the potential to create life enhancing outcomes to enhance and maintain our own resilience and that of our loved ones, our communities and future generations.
